Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence

PCV Drivers

From the 10th September 2008 and before the 9th September 2013 all commercial, professional bus and coach drivers of vehicles with more than 9 seats, will need to hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) in addition to a vocational driving licence. To gain the Driver CPC they must complete 35 hours of training. When the course is successfully completed, you will be issued with a Driver Qualification Card (DQC), which looks similar to a photo driving licence. Once you obtain the Driver CPC, you must complete 35 hours of periodic training within the next five years to ensure that it stays valid. Drivers who undertake an approved National Vocational Training (NVT) programme can drive professionally for up to 12 months while they complete their initial Driver CPC qualification.

  LORRY MOUNTED LOADER (HIAB)

The HIAB training course is designed for candidates who wish to be able to operate a Lorry Mounted Loader (HIAB).

The course provides practical and theoretical training in the safe and efficient operation of lorry loaders, also known as HIABs.

CATEGORY C+E - ARTICULATED VEHICLE

Articulated Commercial Vehicle Training Course - The Articulated Commercial Vehicle (Artic) training course is designed for candidates who wish to obtain a Category C+E Licence New drivers must first hold a Category C Licence to complete this course.

The course provides practical and theoretical training in the safe and efficient operation of Articulated Commercial Vehicles also known as 'Artics'.

Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence

The Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life. There are two parts to the legislation:

The Initial Qualification that must be achieved by new LGV and PCV drivers along with their vocational licence to enable them to use their licence professionally.

Periodic Training, which involves all professional drivers undertaking 35 hours of training every 5 years .
